The Gardner Heist on Boston March 1990,
Shortly after midnight on March 18, 1990, two men broke into the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston and committed the largest art heist in history. They disappeared, along with two other works by Rembrandt, five sketches by Degas, a Manet painting, a landscape As an unclear detective o n their way to the finial, the thieves passed by Boticelli and Titian. They would spend 81 minutes moving through the darkened galleries of the Italianate mansion . Once inside, the thieves ripped a Vermeer, three Rembrandts -- including his only seascape -- five Degas drawings, and a Manet from their wall placements, smashing them out of their frames and leaving shards of glass and remnants of canvas behind.
