Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley is a nonfiction book by journalist John Carreyrou, released May 21, 2018. It covers a multibillion-dollar biotech startup the book received critical acclaim, winning the 2018 Financial Times Year Award. Carreyrou began a series of investigative but the New York Times conceded that "Carreyrou’s presentation has a few minor flaws"—like an excessive number of characters and occasional reliance on stereotypes—the paper concluded that "such blemishes in no way detract but Bill Gates said "Bad Blood tackles some serious ethical questions. The book was included on end-of-year lists, including The New York Post's list of the 28 most unforgettable books of 2018. Bad Governance board and venture capital investors included powerful men in finance, politics, the military, and media. Members of her board included former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Former Senate Majority leader Bill Frist, former Secretary of Defense James Mattis, former Secretary of Defense William Perry, former Secretary of State George Shultz, former Senator Sam Nunn, former Wells Fargo CEO Richard Kovacevich, and super-lawyer David Boies. Oracle Software founder Larry Ellison poured in millions early on, and media mogul Rupert Murdoch invested $125 million in Theranos in March 2015.
