The European Space Agency (ESA) launched its €1bn probe on 1 July ,2023

 




. The probe is a joint project between ESA and NASA, and it will reach its destination, the Lagrange point L2, about one month later. L2 is a point of gravitational equilibrium located about 1.5 million kilometers beyond Earth's orbit. The probe will orbit L2 in a Lissajous orbit, which is a type of orbit that is characterized by its complex, wavy shape.

The probe is carrying a number of scientific instruments, including a near-infrared camera, a mid-infrared camera, and a spectrometer. These instruments will be used to study the first stars and galaxies that formed in the universe, as well as exoplanets that could potentially support life.

The probe's mission is expected to last for five years. During that time, it will collect data that will help scientists to better understand the early universe and the search for life beyond Earth.
