Flagellation
Bernardo Zenale, Between 1515 and 1520
The painting was probably not executed personally by Bernardo Zenale, but by one of his collaborators who perhaps worked to his master's cartoon. The scene is set in the courtyard of a building that recalls early sixteenth-century Milanese architecture, where architectural classicism coexists with typically Lombard motifs such as bronze capitals, balustrades, and plant-candelabra columns.
